UK Points Based System

Starting January 2021

The UK exited the EU on 31 January 2020 and as a result the Points Based System was introduced.

Starting from January 2021, the UK is set to bring the best and brightest skilled people to the UK.

The UK is ending free movement and will introduce an Immigration Bill to bring in a firm and fair points-based system to attract the high-skilled workers it needs to contribute to the economy, the communities and it’s public services.

From 1 January 2021, EU and non-EU citizens will be treated equally. Levels of migration will be reduced and top priority will be given to those with the highest skills and the greatest talents: scientists, engineers, mathematicians, technology experts, academics and other highly-skilled workers.

There will be no introduction of a general low-skilled or temporary work route but instead UK intends to concentrate on investment in technology and automation.

Those who are qualified in the STEM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, will need to have a good command of the English language. They will need to find and apply to UK based companies who have been given the license to sponsor and employ highly skilled workers from out of the country.
